We operate on a 1-5 level danger rating scale here. All missions have a danger rating associated with them. Ask your ST for your danger rating. It may shift from day to day or character to character. For example what is a danger rating 4 to Selenity may only be a danger rating 2 to Zach. Involving yourself in such missions is not mandatory and any character who has in there profile no perma death is banned from such missions, completing them however will gain you extra items or XP. On top of standard RP XP.
Level 1: Easy mode. You are effectivly fighting Barney and friends with fully loaded equipment and tactical teams. Mission on this mode are nearly a sure thing with no chance of failure. Very limited puzzles that roughly translate to find blue key to blue door. Enemy rating: Turnips are more dangerous.
Level 2 (What we just came out of): Easy-Normal mode. This is a scale up to get players and characters used to the game. Most Role Play happens at this level. You are still fighting barney and friends but they also have weapons. Missions on this mode are still nearly a sure thing, but expect a curve ball of something to go wrong. Puzzle difficulty increases. Instead of red key to red door you may need to remeber information for later use to get past obstacles.
Level 3 (what we just went to): Normal mode. Role Play is scaled up. Character conflicts will be nurtured by STs. Game quality is expected to go up. you are no longer fighting barney and friends. These enemies have a clue of what you are and how to fight you. Expect missions to have a chance of going horribly wrong. Plans a, b and c may fail one at a time or all at once. Missions on this mode are NOT a sure thing can will have consequences for failure throughout the game. Puzzle difficulty rises to riddles and complex mazes that must be navigated before the goal of the mission can even be sighted. Attention to Detail is Important and recalling information you forgot from the ST will require memory rolls.
Level 4: Hard mode. Role Play is once more scaled up. Expressions become crucial to RP. Body language and attention to detail both received and described becomes VERY important to character relations. Character conflicts may be outright started by STs in the form of rumors dropped from NPCs to ignite tensions. Enemies at this level not only know what you are and how to fight you, but they have the equipment, the ability and the tactics to use it. It is not uncommon for enemies of this level to actually have full blown plans in place to go against you. Missions of this level will require extreme care, cunning and EXTREME attention to detail. Asking for any clarification from the ST will require a roll from your character to get the information. Puzzles become obscure riddles, hints, crumpled up notes that are easily missed. Often times missions at this level's success or failure hinges on a few key points and if the scales do not tip in your favor you will fail. Character death chance is quite high and the likelyhood you will make it out of level 4 unscathed or unchanged for the experience is very very low.
Level 5: Hardcore mode. Role Play is expected to be at it's highest standard. Bring your A-game to this party. The devil is in the details here. Players are encouraged to exploit lapses in descriptions, typos, and lapses in location information to their advantage, the STs certainly will. Character conflicts at this level WILL end in someone's death or utter humiliation at their surrender and laughed out of the scene for giving up. Enemies at this level don't just have plans of how to deal with you, you are out numbered, out matched, out classed, out geared, and out smarted. They have plans ontop of plan on how to deal with your and your party. They aren't just ready for you, they're baiting and trapping you, or actively hunting you down. Missions of this level are almost surely a failure. The chances of even pulling the goal of the mission off before your die is incredibly slim. Puzzles are outright subtle, confusing and blatantly obscure. It would be easier to walk through the labyrinth blindfolded and covered in spider webs. Character death is almost assured at this level. These missions are typically nessecary suicide missions and are last blazes for glory for characters. Anyone who survives at this level is an instant legend among their people.
